Default rules for working with members
of Common Language Cooperative
Expectation matching is paramount to satisfaction. The following document is an integral part of any professional engagement contract, and it is signed in order to receive the services of Shared Language members.
We urge both clients and Shared Language members to explicitly discuss project and payment details. However, unless noted otherwise in writing, the following conditions apply to each and every project.
Nature of the project:
-
A translation means translating from the language in which a text is written into another language. This does not mean editing, proofreading or rewriting. If the original text is not well written, its translation may be no more than readable. Proofreading entails correcting typos and syntax. This means neither editing nor rewriting. Editing can be done on various levels, and it is important that both client and editor make sure they share their expectations prior to starting work on the project.
-
The format and design of the translated document will remain similar, but these will not necessarily be completely identical to those of original document.
-
The client must provide vendor with a glossary as well as a style guide prior to the beginning of work on the project.
-
The cost of both translation or editing also includes proofreading by a different Shared Language member, unless the client specifically agrees to exclude this service.
-
A translation rate or editing rate allow for one review. Any additional reviews would involve extra charge.
Rate:
-
The agreed upon rate does not include VAT.
-
In case of a per-word price, the word count would refer to the target language. Different versions of an application as well as different applications may occasionally count words differently. In any such case, the Shared Language member will determine the number of words using the application she/he usually works with, and will provide a screen print as proof, if necessary. If the rate is set per printer's sheet, this will be a rate per 24,000 characters with spaces.
Payment terms:
Payment is due immediately when services are rendered, and in a manner chosen by the Shared Language member.
Schedule:
Sunday to Thursday are considered working days. "A day" includes all hours and ends at midnight.
